(DESIRE) MATTERS
Can the desirability and value of recycled materials be forged through design? Edward sees this as a necessity, in fact, he sees all materials as having value and believes that mining cities, mining landfill, mining waste instead of our planet, is vital. For MATTERS, Edward presents various investigations into the methods of recontextualizing waste, including several collaborative projects;
Can the desirability and value of recycled materials be forged through design? Edward sees this as a necessity, in fact, he sees all materials as having value and believes that mining cities, mining landfill, mining waste instead of our planet, is vital. For MATTERS, Edward presents various investigations into the methods of recontextualizing waste, including several collaborative projects;
- PolyOnyx—a collaboration with Designer and Plastics Researcher Maxwell Carr which looks to develop a range of plastic materials and compositions that retain the beauty of rare stones, which through illumination stimulate an emotional bond.
- Amber Bottle Glass—working with master glass blower and artist Ruth Allen, developing commercial forms of smelted amber glass, a common consumer waste material.
- Aluminium—smelted in house with designer and jewellery maker Indigo Tolhurst, aluminium waste from Edward’s studio is reformed and reborn.
